Jonas Junker

Born: 1984
Lives: Erlangen, Germany
Climbing since: ca 2001

Started:
Erlangen is near to Frankenjura, where the art of climbing is kind of heritage given from one generation to the other. His Dad learned him to climb. Even as a child, the Dad took Jonas on climbing trips to France and Italy and has taken this stile of life for his own.

Preferred climbs:
He climbs of course mostly at home in Frankenjura. He is a good boulderer, but he also likes endurance climbing. From the technical point of view, his main weapon is toe hooking. Jonas is a versatile climber and he basically enjoys almost any activity, which has something to do with climbing. It still can be alpine climbing or deep-water soloing, just to have enough time for that all...

From his climbing achievements he appreciates most:
His greatest achievement was repeating of boulders Confessions 8b+, Riot Act 8b+, Black Shadow 8b and his ascent of New Orleans Heavy weight Division route 11-.

Competitions:
Jonas occasionally participates in open bouldering competitions, such as Petrohradske padani, or uni championships, which need no special preparation.

Training:
4 - 5x a week indoor bouldering, but as soon as the weather is better, no one will see him in the gym.

Diet:
Jonas tries to eat healthfully, everything fresh and high quality, a lot of vegetable.

Future plans:
He definitely wants to enjoy his climbing on. There are many climbing areas, which he has never seen and would like to visit.

Climbing equipment:
Climbing shoes Ozone QC, Top Gun LU and Top Gun QC (Rock Pillars), harness Mojave (Ocun), crash pad Dominator (Ocun)

Jonas Junker about climbing:
"Climbing is the best sport, the best kind of movement for me.  I am always very happy with climbing. I like to solve the problems. I cannot describe the feelings, when you reach for a poor hold, which you are able to hold and stay on only because you can keep yourself focused and you are strong not only physically but it is also your will, which holds you there. To be a climber, you need a lot of motivation , a little of talent and to be slightly fanatic. There is a lot of climbing experiences, which you never forget. My strongest were probably climbing in Mallorca and my flash of 8-lengths route Schattila (7c) in Rhätikon."

Hobbies and interests besides climbing:
Running, swimming, in winter sometimes snowboarding, cooking.
