Our UK sponsored climber Nigel Poustie sent an interesting blog-report about his latest achievements.

Nigel Poustie

In the beginning of January I mostly climbed on my board at home, due to the wet weather. When it was dry I would go out and try probably the hardest 8a in Yorkshire, Zoo York. Eventually on the 24/01/08, I managed to do it! A great feeling as it took me quite a long time to make the link.

Having done Zoo York I turned my attention to some of my project. I cleaned up a boulder, and did the easiest way through the roof. Which goes at around font 7a.
After this I did the the roof next to it, this is an awkward, physical problem on small holds. I think the grade is somewhere around 7a+/7b.

Once I'd done the obvious roof problems I cleaned up the side wall, a nice problem with a Fantastic Font-like sloping top out. This is about 6c+.

Now I'm working on the lip-traverse across the roof.
I've done all of the moves on it but never had enough energy for the full link. I think when it's done I think the grade will be, 7c+/8a? Its difficult to grade hard stamina problems.

There is also a highball prow with a terrible landing.
I've only tried it once with a spotter and I was tired from the lip-traverse, so i didn't commit fully. I don't think it will be too hard, somewhere around the 7a-7b mark. But very scary!

I will confirm the grades, names and location when I have done the last two projects. I'm really excited about my latest batch of new problems and my climbing generally. looking forward to future sends!

Bye

Nigel
