Grades and rates by Andreas Mölk

Inspired by couple of questions and conversations in the last weeks to his opinion about gradings, Andreas Mölk says...

Grades are a form of prejudice.

We grade because we need it, because it makes us feel good, because it is convenient. But how can we say, a specific route or boulder has a specific grade when there are infinite routes and boulders in the world with the same grade that we cannot climb? But we'll never try them! All right, so we do the best we can. Granted! But we must still realize, that grades are just the result of specific moments. Lots of climbers make too much of it. On these reasons, getting sh*t-faced with friends should not be entirely scorned. But that's the result of a specific moment too.
