South Africa Reloaded
In the middle of July, some friends and I started a trip to South Africa. We left Austria in the hottest month of the year and arrived in the African winter. That means about 20 degrees on warm days, but an average temperature of about 12 degrees - perfect conditions for climbing. We rent a lovely cottage at the Alpha Farms. It's in a valley in the Cedarbergs, surrounded by wine-, roibos-, lavender- and olive-fields and of course amazing boulders, as far you can see. We spent nearly everyday with bouldering.
I was really psyched to work on old projects and classic lines in this extraordinary area. The sandstone there calls for athletic moves and dynos on mostly overhanging boulders. Typical new school bouldering!
Every year, more and more world class climbers visit the Rocklands to push bouldering to its next level. Every single visit, I'm proud to be part of this community.
